Plymouth Marjon Golf Team tees up possible comeback after years away

A Plymouth Marjon Golf Team could be making a long-awaited comeback in 2026, after students are pushing towards making one in time for Varsity.

After a few years without a golf society, students are heavily pushing for a newly formed team to represent the University in the BUCS league as well as in Varsity. Golf has always played an important role at Marjon with an affiliation with local club Boringdon, as well as a state of the art golf simulator located in the Marjon Sports and Leisure facility.

I spoke to Tristan Woolcock (19), who is campaigning for a Marjon Golf Society here at the University. He said “Golf is lacking at Marjon, and if you look at other universities they all have some sort of golf society.” He followed on from this saying “I think we can get golf back here at Marjon, I’ve spoken to some freshers who are really keen for this”. Golf is quickly growing in the wider world and Tristan referenced this saying “I think it would be good to have a provision in place for people to play here at Marjon. When asked how he is going about this Tristan said “ I’ve emailed the Student Union and filled out the forms and it is currently with the Sports Federation, but they are taking a very long time to reply, if I don’t hear from them after Christmas then I will take it back up with the Student Union”.

When asked about a potential Varsity 2026 appearance for the newly established golf team, Tristan said “It would be good to have a Varsity match in some description, even if its a friendly as it would be good for people to represent Marjon in that aren’t into mainstream sports.” Tristan seems heavily passionate for golf to make a return to Marjon and hopes that the Sports Federation makes a decision imminently so that he can begin to form a society. I also quickly spoke to students George (18) and Connor (23) about their opinion on a potential appearance for golf at Varsity 2026, he said “Absolutely, any chance to beat those lot we have to take it. Up the Jons.” Connor followed up saying “Lets hope golf does come back to Marjon.”

The potential comeback now sits with the Marjon Sports Federation, with clear enthusiasm from students across campus, a Marjon golf society could be back on the cards for 2026 and hopefully will be here to stay.
