Manchester United lost the chance to gain an extra two points away to Burnley yesterday and fans are still furious about the sacking of Ruben Amorim. The Reds travelled to Burnley whilst still missing many key players either from AFCON or injury, Darren Fletcher had to improvise and put out his first starting 11 in charge. Darren Fletcher’s formation meant that the players had to convert from a 5 back to a 4 back, which many United fans are happy about.
Unfortunate enough to concede two goals, we won’t take the shine away from Benjamin Sesko landing his first brace for The Red Devils. Sesko managed to create the most shots on target in one game in the premier league this season, with an outstanding 7 on target. Hopefully Sesko can make a name for himself and fire away more goals for the rest of the season after this performance.
During the game, Burnley’s first goal was an unlucky deflection off of Ayden Heavens foot, which dinked the ball over Lammens and went into the right side of the net, causing United to go down 1-0 within 13 minutes. With the second half underway United’s Sesko scored in the 49th minute but wasn’t done there. He then scored another in the 60th minute to secure his brace, however was unlucky to not get a third. When we thought Sesko had saved United, a thundering finesse shot from Anthony had curved into the top left corner, leaving Lammens with no hope. Burnley walked away with a much needed point, whereas The Red Devils were left unsatisfied with only a point to bring back home.
In the Post-Match interviews, Darren Fletcher was asked about the change of formation. He stated that it’s hard to go from a 4 back to a 5, and it’s not just the defenders job to defend, the whole team defends as one, from the attackers to the backline.
Manchester United face Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday, this will be their second game with Darren Fletcher in charge. Hopefully they do well and develop their understanding with the formation change.
