PROGRESSIVE Norwegian postal service ‘Posten’ have launched their 2021 Christmas advert marking the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality within the country.
Within the ad, Santa’s love story, traditionally depicted as heterosexual, is instead flipped to incorporate the theme of free love.
In an interview with LGBTQ Nation, Posten’s marketing director, Monica Solberg, said: “Posten is an inclusive workplace with great diversity, and we would like to celebrate the 50th anniversary with this fine love story.”
The story begins with Harry, a man who waits all year to spend Christmas night with his beloved Santa.
Harry is introduced firstly as startled by Santa, who is in his home delivering presents late at night.
From this point, Harry and Father Christmas are seen exchanging small gifts with growing affection.
The times between each Christmas are not easy on Harry, who is seen crying during his wait for Christmas Eve night.
Harry finally decides to address a letter to Santa, reading: “All I want for Christmas is you <3”.
While waiting for Santa to arrive, Harry hears the doorbell ring one Christmas Eve night. As he answers the door, he finds a postal worker delivering his presents in time for Christmas.
Returning to the living room looking rather disappointed after not finding Santa behind the door, he finds a man in a long red coat and a curly white beard standing by his fireplace.
“Well, I arranged some help this year so I can be with you”, says Santa calmly.
Harry and Santa draw close to one another to share their first kiss.
As the advert closes, Posten end with: “In 2022, Norway marks 50 years of being able to love whoever we want.”
People have reacted positively on Twitter, with some users making some lovely artwork encapsulating the love shared between the two characters.
Posten really have blessed us with an early Christmas gift this year!
