Another home defeat for Swindon seems to end the Robins Playoffs hopes!!

Swindon Town are winless in five after a disappointing 0-1 loss at home to Stockport County. Swindon cause was not helped after winger Jacob Wakeling was sent-off after conceding a penalty after pushing former Swindon right-back Kyle Knoyle. Paddy Madden stepped up to take the penalty for Stockport, but his penalty was saved by Swindon goalkeeper Sol Brynn down to his right. In the 3rd minute Swindon had their own penalty appeal when winger Rushian Hepburn-Murphy seemed to be trip in the penally area. Referee Alan Young deemed the former Aston Villa winger dived and he was booked for simulation. Swindon brought star striker Charlie Austin off at half time and he was replaced by fullback Marcel Lavinier. Stockport finally broke the deadlock in the 80th minute, Ryan Rydel ran down the left-flank from his own half all the way to the Swindon box where he pulled the ball across the box. It fell to midfielder Ryan Croasdale who smashed the ball in the top left corner of the net.

Swindon now sit 11th in the League Two table and are 10 points outside of the playoffs. The former Premier League side, have now lost six games at home this season and would sit 17th in the League if it was only based on home form.

Managers thoughts on the Stockport Defeat

Swindon Manager Jody Morris, who has only won two of his ten games in charge, spoke to the clubs media after the disappointing performance.

“We should of had a penalty and maybe our own red card I don’t know you never know what you’re going to get with the officials. “

Playoff still on?

Swindon are away on Saturday to Hartlepool United on Saturday who sit in the relegation zone. The robins will be looking to match their previous result at The Suit Direct Stadium which was a 0-3 victory. During the easter period, Swindon Town face playoffs rivals Mansfield, Barrow and Bradford all at home. Some fans are still hopeful the club will get in the playoffs but many believe it is outreach.

My View

I am a Swindon fan myself and am usually pessimistic, I believe the playoffs are out of reach due to our home form. Even though we still have to play teams around the playoffs I don’t see us winning them all which would reasonably be the only way we could get in the playoffs. Last year we also made a late run into the playoffs but this season I think are team is a lot weaker and with us only picking up two wins in 10 and conceding four to the bottom table I think the playoffs are unreachable this season.

Swindon Town fan Mike Baker when asked about if he thinks Swindon will make the playoffs said;

“I don’t see us making the play-offs, which is not a comfortable thought. Clearly, we were sitting pretty when we underwent the whole business with Scott Lindsey leaving, before being typically Swindon and fiddling around for the amount of time it took to find a replacement.”
