Review of new Foo Fighters song “Rescued”

A review of “Rescued”

The new Foo Fighters single “Rescued” releases ahead of their new album “But here we are”. This is the first release to come since the tragic passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins last March, and the first album since 2021’s “Medicine at Midnight”.

The new song is a reflection from Dave Grohl and the band on the passing of Taylor Hawkins, this is evident from lyrics such as

“It came in a flash,

It came out of nowhere,

It happened so fast,

And then it was over”

This is in reference to the untimely nature of Hawkins’ death as he died only at 50 due to a drug overdose. Dave Grohl belts out the songs lyrics giving the song its classic level of Foo Fighters passion.

The song follows the typical Foo Fighters formula, of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge chorus with a good main riff that fans will be able to hum along to.

The song is a touching tribute to Hawkins’ who had been with the band since their 1997 hit album “The Colour and Shape”. While is unconfirmed who the next drummer will be or who played drums on the new song some are speculating it was Dave Grohl himself, whoever it was continues his legacy with excellent and consistent drumming keeping the band together throughout the 4 minute duration of the song. The song leaves a little bit to be desired and isn’t quite as ambitious as previous outings from the Foo Fighters, but that is understandable given the circumstances surrounding this new release.

Overall I would say the song is a 7/10 and will be well received on the tours to come, helping the band grow their connection to their adoring fans and come to terms with the collective loss of Taylor Hawkins.
