Turkish Referee Assaulted

Turkish football league suspended after referee was assaulted. This is a result of Ankaragucu President Faruk Koca, ran on to the pitch after a 1-1 draw and punched the referee.

Koca was arrested after the game and is now permanently banned from being President. The club has also been fined two million lira ($54,000) and will have to play five home games without fans, because of the unrest involving fans and club officials.

Verbal abuse is something that happens to officials in almost every football match, from the Premier League all the way down to grassroots football. However, abuse like this rarely occurs.

Are officials going to be too intimidated to do their job in the future?
