Everton have ended their goal drought scoring four goals against Wolverhampton Wonderers. Fullback Ashley young drew first blood scoring a free-kick and making it his 50th goal in the Premier league. Belgium midfielder Mangala was making the best of his loan spell scoring the second goal of the game. Wolves defender Craig Dawson scored two similar own goals on his 300th appearance from set pieces making the game 4-0 to the toffees. Having a lot of challenging games with the likes of Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal this is a great Victory for Everton and three vital points for the club.
Everton kicked off the first half against Wolves at Goodison Park looking for a better result than their last game losing to Manchester United 4-0 at Old Trafford. Wolverhampton’s defence started off rocky with Craig Dawson making a small defensive error in the first few minutes of the game. In the 10th minute a free-kick was given to Everton and it was scored by the toffees oldest outfielder Ashley Young making it his 50th premier league goal in his career. Wolves then gave away another free-kick in the 16th minute a header was scored by James Tarkowski but then was ruled out due to Mangala being the offside man. The Belgium midfielder then made amends for being offside with a goal in the 33rd minute. After scoring his first goal of the season Mangala gets a yellow card before half time. After the six minutes of added time was over that concluded a great first half for Everton.
Wolves kicked off the second half hoping for a better 45 minutes after conceding two in the first half. Everton got their third in the 49th minute after a corner from Dwight McNeil and Wolves defender Craig Dawson headering the ball into his own net. Wolverhampton Wonderers made the first substitution of the game with Goncalo Guedes coming off for Hwang Hee-Chan. Everton were given another free-kick and a similar situation happened again with Craig Dawson scoring another own goal on his 300th Premier League appearance. The free-kick was taken by Dwight McNeil his last kick of the game after being taken off for Jack Harrison. Everton’s Dominic Calvert Lewin was also taken off for Armando Broja who made his first appearance for the first team after dealing with an Achilles injury. Everton’s goal scorer Mangala was taken off in the 89th minute for midfielder Harrison Armstrong.
After the officials called for four minutes of added time, the referee blew the whistle to conclude a great victory for the toffees. This was Everton’s biggest win at home since 2020, the last time Everton scored three goals at home was against Newcastle United last year. This was a great victory for Everton putting the blues in great spirits before the Merseyside Derby on the weekend.
