A Tuesday evening in the Midlands saw two of the promotion pushing teams battle for a chance to be in reach of the provisional automatic promotion spots of EFL League One to go into the EFL Championship with a lot of big money signings from Islandic international Wilum Wilumsson who signed from Go Ahead Eagles from the Eredivisie for £3.3million as well as big money signing Jay Stansfeild from Premier League side Fulham for £14.75million.
In the forth minute of play a shot for newly promoted Stockport County as William Collar as it rattles against the crossbar with a thundering Right-footed shot from just outside the box. A freekick in the 23rd minute from the left hand side for the home side as it is whipped into the box and a Stockport man got their head on it to glance it over the bar as a corner is given to the Midlands club as nothing comes from the corner. Very soon after a mistake from the Stockport keeper Ben Hinchliffe as Keshi Anderson intercepts the throw who takes the ball down the bi-line into the box who finds Alfie may as the low shot deflects off of Stockport defender Ethan Pye which means that keeper Hinchliffe dove the wrong way.
A second was scored ten minutes later again from Alfie may as Jay Stansfeild picked up the ball in the centre of the park who plays the ball off to Anderson on the Right hand side who then goes down the bi-line again to pull it back to Alfie May who was able to slot the ball away and into the net to make it 2-0 before the half. A chance then for Louis Barry for the visitors as a low driven cross comes in from the right hand side and Barry’s shot was saved by Ryan Allsopp who was able to get down well to parry the ball out reach from everyone around.
At half time the hosts were up 2-0 with an Alfie May double puts the Blues in a good position going into the second half.
There was only the one opportunity in the second half from Stansfeld as his acrobatic attempt from the centre of the box is tipped away by The Hatters goalkeeper keeping the score at 2-0 and to see Birmingham keep their clean sheet and to prevent Stockport from getting their forth win on the trot.
