What Happened to LMFAO

LMFAO is a well known EDM-hip house duo inspired by Michael Jackson and Madonna, featuring: Stefan Kendal Gordy, who goes by the stage name Redfoo and his half-nephew Skyler Austen Gordy, AKA Sky Blu.

The pair hit the music scene with the song: ‘I’m in Miami b*tch’ in 2008, however it is far from being their most famous or most popular single. In 2009, the duo released the first of 2 albums, that would define their career, titled ‘Party Rock’ this album featured the first song they published along side other instant hits such as ‘Shots’ featuring Lil John and ‘yes’. The album skyrocketed the artists careers and even reached number 33 on the billboard 200 and ended up being number 2 in the U.S. Dance Chart.

Just three years later the pair released their second and most famous album ‘Sorry For Party Rocking’ containing what is irrefutably their most popular single ‘Party Rock Anthem’ the song peaked at number one in the UK, US and Canada as well as reaching the top 10 in many other countries. Most of their most popular songs were featured on this album like: ‘Sexy And I Know It’ racking up 468,941,365 listens on Spotify and ‘Sorry For Party Rocking’ that currently only has 123,126,666 listens. ‘Party Rock Anthem’ became the third best selling digital album of that year selling 9.7 million copies world wide only narrowly beaten by two of Bruno Mars’ songs ‘Grenade’ (10.2 million copies) and ‘Just the Way You Are’ (12.5 million copies).

It’s safe to say that the world was shocked when in 2012 seemingly at the height of their success the pair announced that they would be going on an indefinite hiatus, which was later confirmed as their disbandment. In a statement Redfoo commented “I feel like we’ve been doing this for so long” and that him and Sky Blu would “not be performing together any time soon”. The pair announced their own solo careers soon after.

It seemed that after the disbandment Redfoo continued along the same lines as LMFAO keeping his lively persona and gaining 950.6 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, and releasing new singles and albums such as: his single ‘Let’s Get Ridiculous’ that he released in 2013 amassing 44,139,300 current listens on Spotify, and his album ‘Party Rock Mansion’ released in 2016 containing 13 new songs.  His most recent single pays homage to the legacy of ‘Party Rock’ and ‘Party Rock Anthem’ it was released in 2023 and is titled ‘Long Live Party Rock’.

Sky Blu however, seemed to struggle with his career after the duo parted ways only maintaining 16.9 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify and releasing just 4 singles: ‘Salud’ and ‘Pop Bottles’ were both released in 2013 with ‘Pop Bottles’ being one of his most popular songs with 1,100,378 listens on Spotify as of now. The artist then seems to take an extended hiatus from making music as he doesn’t return to creating songs until 2022, it is unclear as to what happened during this nine year span as Sky Blu seemingly does not have any internet presence other than an un-verified Spotify account. We do know however that in 2016, four years after LMFAO’s disbandment that Sky Blu claimed in a Facebook post, that has now disappeared along with his account, that Redfoo had attempted to claim all of LMFAO’s royalties for himself, This led fans to wonder if there were previous issues like this that led to their split in 2012. After this post Sky Blu seemed to disappear but again resurfaces in 2022 with his now most popular single: ‘Feel Alive’ featuring TELYKAST, one year later he would go on to release his second most popular single ‘GASLiGHT’.

As of right now neither of the two have announced any new music or tours, and fans are disappointed due to the highly unlikely nature of a collab between the two artists, leaving them wanting and waiting for a hit of the nostalgic LMFAO fell from the early 2000’s.
