- Bolton Wanderers 3-1 Mansfield Town
League one match
Bolton Wanderers made count off 10-man Mansfield after coming back from behind to win at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
Bolton went into half time 0-1 down, needing a improved performance going into the second half, Hitam Boateng’s header given Nigel Clough’s side a deserved lead.
The trotters had been wasteful until the goal scorer Boateng got sent off, also when Ian Evatt made a quadruple change and from there it was a better night for Ian Evatt’s side.
Dion Charles, Victor Adeboyejo and John McAtte got the rapid goals Bolton was looking for. Leaving the home fans a lot happier than the first half.
Wanderers made three changes from when they drew with Cambridge, Szabolcs Schon after coming back from suspension, Victor Adeboyejo replaced Charles, John Mcatee came into make the midfield up with George Thomason having a one game ban.
It was a very chilly night in Horwich, half the stadium was empty towards kick of, which shows some fans feel dishearted with how the season has gone so far.m
After ten minutes referee Seb Stocksbridge called for a replacement ball, with game being dull with then McAtte combining with Josh Dacres-Cogley playing left wing back his cross was turned behind. The corner was half cleared until McAtte had shot, forcing Christy Plym to parry the ball away.
McAtte was having a spell for Bolton, moments later in the penalty box, trying to score from a cross from Schon, Jordan Bowery making a timed block.
Bolton’s only time of scoring in the first half at the Toughsheet was goals against Reading in the league this season, Wanderers kept wasting chances with Gethin Jones passed on a decent header and then Adeboyejo slashed it at the rebound.
After Bolton’s pressure, Mansfield started to come into the game, George Maris poked a shot into the side net after Luke Akins crossed from the right and man who was close to joining Bolton last season Keanu Baccus tried an acrobatic volley ending up wide after Bolton messed up clearing another set piece.
Aaron Collins should of gave Wanderers the lead hour and half in, not being able to get a proper head connection from a Cogley cross. Then 10 minutes later that made Bolton pay as Mansfield then scored to make 0-1.
Akins with a cross on the right-hand side, Boateng headed it in, hitting the woodwork to get his second goal of the season.
Wanderers’ response going 0-1 down was poor. The crowd gave their views with booing forcing Wanderers to start playing miss passes. With Mansfield leading at half time, Will Evan’s could have made it 0-2 but wasted his chance from 10 yards.
As half time came fans booed which is not the first time this season, but then second half came, and it was a different story.
Bolton nearly leveled straight after half time, Bowerys awful back pass, allowing Adeboyejo through insight of goal. The Nigerian did a poor tap going wide with then home fans feeling even more frustrated.
Even more boos from the home faithful, as Boateng got the ball back in the penalty area just before the hour with Nathan Baxter bringing out a save at his near post.
But then Baxter made a mistake questioning the goalkeeper as well as George Johnston back passing, with Evan’s getting on the ball, who had caught out Baxter as he tried to nudge the ball past him. Unlucky not to have a yellow card.
Evatt decided to send on four subs on the hour, with Collins, Cogley,Schon, and Sheehan for Tutu,Williams,Charles and Klaidi Lolos.
Osei tutu made an impact coming off the bench, coming wide after Pym made a mess of Williams cross. The same thing happened at the other side, as Baxter spilled Boatengs goal on the line. Mansfield manager Clough thought that should have been given but soon had other things to worry about when they had a man sent off.
Boateng who was booked 11 minutes earlier, kicks Williams he knew his fate. But then Mansfield keeper had physio come on who needed treatment.
Then Bolton’s pressure started coming, Mansfield looked uncomfortable, trying to leave 10 men behind the ball causing them to panic as pressure was causing panic.
A ball in from Tutu from the left side, found McAtte who headed to Charles whether he meant it or not, found Charles to turn in from close range. Looking to see if the linesman had put his flag up, the stadium was also quiet for a split second before then celebrating.
Five minutes later, the mood around the stadium was vastly different, eager the team on. Osei Tutu making the difference on the left side, puts in a cross which finds Adeboyejo to score from close range.
For majority of the match, the home crowd were so quiet and then booing at half time, in what was a weird celebration atmosphere. Then McAtte made sure it was all 3 points for Wanderers with a brilliant finish, getting the ball from a good run from Lolos before driving it home in the bottom corner.
Bolton nearly had a fourth in the last minutes of the game, from Williams. The home fans then were the having the last laugh as they started doing the ole treatment in the final few moments. Full time went and the difference from the home crowd full of cheeriness quite different from half time.
