Arsenal secured a place in the knockout stages of the Women’s Champions League, winning 1-0 against FC Twente on Tuesday night.
Fans were disappointed with an underwhelming start to the title race, losing against Bayern Munich and Leon, which is not convincing enough to keep their Champions League title. Speaking with Connor, 22, he said: “I feel like this win was needed for Arsenal because being 8th in the league is a big win that they needed because dropping more points with how other teams are doing currently, it would definitely have been a big low blow towards their chances. But I do feel like they would be able to make it into the final again.”
Fans are hoping that, after this early win, Arsenal will turn it around and become champions once again. Beth Mead scored in 10 minutes with an assist from Alessia Russo. Arsenal Women’s fan Mark, 19, said: “I thought Beth Mead did really well up top, scoring the goal.”
AWFC needs to beat Leuven in their next game if they want to finish in the top four to progress into the quarter finals to win and become champions for the second time.
