This morning the BBC released their shortlist for Sports Personality of The Year, which included, Lionesses stars Hannah Hampton and Chloe Kelly, England Rugby star Ellie Kildunne, darts superstar Luke Littler, golfer Rory McIlroy and F1 driver Lando Norris.
All athletes have had some pretty big performances in the past year with the Red Roses winning the World Cup, the Lionesses winning the Euros, Luke Littler winning the World Championship and McIlroy winning the Masters.
Football fan Oliver Wilson, 19, believes everyone is still in the conversation of who could win, but that he thought one person stood out.
He said: “I think it’s pretty open, Chloe Kelly is another one who could win. I think because of her penalty that won the Euros, she’ll probably be the favourite within the nominees.”
Another athlete who has had a very successful year, in terms of sporting achievements, is Lando Norris. The McLaren driver won his first championship after finishing third in a tight race in Abu Dhabi last Sunday.
George Watkin, an F1 fan, is hoping for the best for Lando Norris ahead of the vote.
He said: “I think that the stand out is Lando Norris, being a British world champion, it’s a rarity nowadays with Lewis Hamilton falling off. So yeah, I think Lando is probably the favourite.”
The show where the voting will happen, will take place on Thursday, 18 December and will be streamed live on BBC one and the BBC iPlayer.
