Chelsea fans are unconvinced by players within the squad and feel like certain players are getting more minutes than they should.
Despite being fourth currently in the Premier League, following a 2-0 win against Everton at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are sitting eight points behind leaders Arsenal, manager Enzo Maresca said before the Everton game that: “Since I joined this club, the last 48 hours have been the worst because many people didn’t support us.”
Leading on from this, he answered a question from the press by saying that people didn’t support him or the team, and that it is in general, not giving a clear answer on who.
The Blues have spent over £1bn since Todd Bohley bought the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022 due to the still ongoing war in Ukraine against Russia. Nine of the 15 most expensive transfers for players to join Chelsea have been since Bohley acquired the club. (Via Transfermarkt)
One Chelsea fan who is anonymous believes rotation and injuries are causing a lot of ‘sub-par’ options to be playing in important Premier League matches:
“A lot of the issues are players who are good enough like Recce James, Wesley Fofana or even Romeo Lavia sustain injuries on a regular basis. This results in worrying about overplaying them so we have to rotate them for a lot of sub-par options instead.”
“Fofana’s inability to stay fit is tragic, he is easily our best CB for me, Levi Colwill is probably the better passer, those two are our best CB’s when fit. The other options are nowhere near their ability and are very prone to errors which have cost the side vital points against Sunderland and Leeds”
They then went on to state that the attack is very ‘flawed’ and has weaknesses:
“The wingers are all pretty flawed and have big weaknesses, Garnacho is bad in front of goal, Pedro Neto is inconsistent, Estevao doesn’t get played enough, and Gittens has not been a great signing so far. Strikers are a mess, Joao Pedro has fallen off already, predictably. Liam Delap has been injured but has been shocking when he has played. Starting to genuinely think that Marc Guiu might be our best option up top at the moment.”
Lastly, they believe that a few players are the only areas of consistency for the club currently, including star player Cole Palmer:
“The few areas of consistency within the team is Cucurella, Palmer, Caicedo. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Robert Sanchez is also on that list.”
Chelsea are next in action this evening (16/12/2025), travelling all the way to Wales, facing Cardiff City who are top of League One in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. Looking to take one step closer to the final which will be held at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 22nd of March 2026.
