The 25/26 Season was underway with Ruben Amorim leading The Red Devils into their first few games, the first game being a really big test. The first game was against the Gunners, arsenal, however this did not frighten United as they were more dominant and had a ton of chances to take 3 points. Unfortunately they lost 1-0 after a goal from calafiori in the 13th minute. Shortly after Arsenal they picked up a point from Fulham, then they went to Grimsby Town away. This game really did lower the fans of Manchester United as they got beat on penalties from a team in the 4th division of English football. The fans were distraught, but Ruben apologised and owned up to his mistakes on and off the field.
Although they suffered a shocking loss, that didn’t set the reds off-course. They returned to the premier league and faced Burnley, this time winning 3-2 with a last minute Bruno Fernandes penalty. This was a sigh of relief and United fans were happy to see their club gain some valuable points at the start of the season. Despite losing 3-0 the next game to Man City, United fans were optimistic about whether the rest of the season would go well, or whether they would replicate their 24/25 season again.
Before we carry on with the rest of Amorim’s reign, let’s talk about his summer transfer window, and what players have been key for the club. The big 3 signings that Ruben made were vital, these 3 were Cunha, Mbeumo, and Sesko. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both came in after being signed from experienced premier league clubs Wolves and Brentford, the fans were ecstatic for these two to come in as they were premier league proven, and they were top goalscorers for their clubs in the 24/25 season. However Sesko came from the Bundesliga, where he was the main striker for RB Leipzig and racked up 13 Goals and 5 Assists in 33 league games. For a young striker this was promising and Manchester United took their chances and signed him.
Currently Matheus Cunha has solidified his starting role in the attacking midfield and has racked up 4 goals and 1 assist as of January 9th. Bryan Mbeumo has come and been a sensational signing for the club, scoring important goals like their 2-1 win away and Anfield, ending their 10 year curse and the home of Liverpool. He’s currently making a name for himself at the club as people are stating that he’s been the best signing for United in recent years. Sesko has taken a little longer to adapt to the premier league but has scored 4 goals so far and has started to build up confidence, this includes his double he scored against Burnley when they drew 2-2.
Ruben managed to pick up 29 points in the premier league landing the Red Devils in Europe before his departure, and a lot of fans aren’t happy about his sacking as they are now going against the board. The Board, otherwise known as Ineos, sacked Amorim after their 1-1 draw against Leeds. But it’s speculated that the reason he was sacked was not because of the result, it’s because of his post-match interview where he had an explosive rant with the public and stating he was manager, and not just a coach. Not even 24 hours later, Manchester United announced the sacking of Ruben Amourim, coincidentally after his post-match conference, fans were in outrage and demanded that the board should revoke their decision, but it was too late.
Darren Fletcher has now recently got the reins as interim manager, scoring himself a point already against Burnley. But fans are not satisfied as it wasn’t against a top premier league club, and they see themselves in heaps of trouble for the rest of the season. The favourite to come in and help this club see out the rest of the season is former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and fans were happy to hear this as he led United 2nd in the premier league back in the 20/21 season. Hopefully Ole and give The Red Devils that push and get them fighting for champions league places.
As for now United sit 7th in the premier league, which is a big improvement from the season before. The fans are protesting against the board and the owners of Manchester United, as they believe that their club is the laughing stock of football. But who knows what the rest of the season holds for them, will Solskjaer come in and save their season or will it be a disaster? Lets see what happens for Manchester United.
