Can Havertz be the key to unlocking Gykores at Arsenal

Much has been said about Victor Gykores’s form so far this season, not reaching the hights we saw of him at previous club Sporting Lison. However, in Arsenal’s 3-2 midweek win in the Champions league, we saw a different Gykores, it wasn’t only his goal, it was his movement and the first time properly getting involved in the game.

The reason for that was the return of Kai Havertz. Unlike other Arsenal number tens, he sat right be behind Gykores but also made runs ahead of him. This created space for Arsenal’s number nine as Havertz’s run drew defenders away. But also meant that he got a lot more of the ball.

When Odegard and Eze play in that role they play too him which doesn’t suit him especially against the low blocks the gunners face. That first half was definitely one of the best 45 minutes we have seen from Swedish striker.

Tomorrow, Arsenal travel north to high flying Leeds where the gunners will need to be on top form to win at. So, it will be interesting so if Havertz starts what impact that will have not only for Gykores but for Arsenal’s attack in general which has been widely criticised in recent times.
