Match Report:
Real Madrid vs Manchester City was a highly anticipated fixture as it could be Manchester City’s last few games in the Champions League until the 2022/2023 season providing they qualify due to a financial investigation from UEFA that has supposedly proved Manchester City of breaching financial fair play rules regarding player sales and purchases. It was also a special visit for Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as he returns to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium where he had visited On a regular basis with his Barcelona team around a decade ago.
Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have been left On the bench with Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez leading the line for City. Isco starts left wing for Madrid due to injury to Eden Hazard and Vincius Junior starts right wing leaving Gareth Bale On the bench.
21st minute: City start the game off strong with Gabriel Jesus making a run down the left flank, cuts back and forces a save from Thibaut Courtois.
30th minute: Real Madrid respond to this early pressure with French Left back Ferland Mendy crossing the ball in deep to find Karim Benzema in the centre of the 18 yard box who forces a strong save from his header by City goalkeeper Ederson, the ball falls to Brazilian youngster Vinicius junior who misses his follow up shot to put Madrid ahead in this tie.
45+2 minute: Gabriel Jesus nearly opens the scoring after Courtois fails to punch the ball away from a corner, the ball falls to Jesus who shot deflects off Ramos and nearly goes into the net but is stopped by Casemiro who is sitting On the line.
2nd half:
50th minute: Manchester City continue to pile On the pressure as Mahrez makes a good run down the right side after a great pass by Kevin De Bruyne as the winger curls his shot wide of the post score stays 0-0.
56th minute: Mahrez continues to cause problems for Madrid as does an excellent fake cross taking Mendy out of the game and he forces a save from Courtois at his near post.
57th Minute: Ilkay Gündoğan plays an overtop through ball to Mahrez who touches it down and forces a save from Courtois to his right hand side.
59th minute: GOAL Madrid: Rodri gives the ball away in the midfield to Vinicius Junior who puts pressure On Kyle Walker then gives the ball to Isco who calmly finishes past Ederson.
70th minute: Make shift Centre Back Fernandinho puts his body On the line as Isco cuts the ball back to Sergio Ramos who has his shot blocked, score stays 1-0 to Real Madrid.
77th Minute: GOAL Manchester City: De Bruyne cuts back and puts a cross in for Gabriel Jesus who headers it past a scrambling Thibaut Courtois to make the score 1-1.
81st Minute: PENALTY Manchester City Sterling is brought down in the box by Dani Carvajal and it gives City the perfect opportunity to go 2-1 up.
83rd Minute: GOAL Manchester City Kevin De Bruyne slots the ball into the bottom left corner sending Courtois the wrong way giving City the Advantage and 2 away goals.
86th Minute: RED CARD Real Madrid Ramos brings down Jesus as the last man meaning the Spanish international will be sent of for the 26th time in his career.
87th minute: Mahrez has the follow up freekick saved.
93rd Minute: Kyle walker gives the ball away cheaply to Valverde who passes it to Ferland Mendy who puts in a shocking cross to absolutely nobody summing up a rather lacklustre performance from Real Madrid.
