Our physical health can impact on our overall wellbeing so it’s important that we take care of our bodies as well as our minds. 

Sleeping

Make sure you get enough sleep:

  • Keep regular sleep hours and avoid napping.
  • Create a restful environment. Somewhere dark, quiet and cool.
  • If you can’t sleep get up and try a relaxing activity, return to bed when you feel sleepier.
  • Caffeine and alcohol can prevent deep sleep. Try to avoid them close to bedtime.

Eating

Manage your diet:

  • Aim to eat 5 portions of a variety of fruit and veg each day.
  • Base your meals on higher fibre starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice or pasta
  • Have some dairy or dairy alternatives (such as soya drinks)
  • Eat some beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other protein
  • Choose unsaturated oils and spreads, and eat them in small amounts
  • Drink plenty of fluids(at least 6 to 8 glasses a day)

 

Exercising

Get moving:

  • Try to be physically active everyday
  • Exercise regularly, at least 150 minutes a week

Medication

If you are taking prescribed medication:

  • Take your medication at the same time everyday
  • Make sure you know if they should be taken with meals or on an empty stomach
  • Be aware that some over-the-counter medicines shouldn’t be taken with prescribed medicines unless a doctor or pharmacist has confirmed it is safe.
