Task 4 formative assessment feedback

I wrote my formative assessment on behaviourism because I had a good understanding of the perspective and was familiar with the theorists involved. I got 58/100 which I was not very happy with because I was aiming to get at least 60. I had checked through the essay in a rush which meant I had left mistakes in it which obviously did not help. I had also incorrectly referenced some information which I only realised after the hand in date. when I spoke to the marker they were very helpful and told me how I could improve. I was informed that in psychology, websites such as simply psychology are not acceptable to use in referencing as some of the information on them is incorrect. This was very useful for me to know and something I could easily change to improve my work. The marker also informed me that I needed more references and should try and include academic journals in my reading. To improve my work I will make sure that I put five extra references in my next essay and use books and journals rather than webpages.

Why Psychology

I decided to study psychology because I find it a very interesting subject and believe it has many important applications. I am fascinated by scientific research and would like to do some research of my own one day. I also believe improving mental health is extremely important and is definitely a growing concern in this country. When I finish university I hope to work in a job that helps people suffering from mental health disorders. I enjoyed studying psychology at A-level and am looking forward to studying it further. I think the broadness of the subject is important because it means it never gets boring and you always learn new things even when looking at areas you have already come across previously.

my strengths and areas of development public speaking

during my presenting I observed that I spoke clearly and made clear and reasoned points. some of my peers wished to discuss the points with me and I listened and discussed with them appropriately. My knowledge of the topic discussed was sound and I used some persuasive techniques while presenting the topic of my choice. However, I feel that a weakness was that I looked nervous while presenting and during discussion had a tendency to play devils advocate which meant I sometimes contradicted myself and changed the point of view I was arguing from. I think my presenting would improve if I avoided playing devils advocate in future and argued only my own point of view. I also found I sometimes avoided eye contact and looked down at the table when I was talking. I think my speaking would improve if I made eye contact when talking to people.
