In these hours of placement, I was back at American flag training. In this session Tom and myself took the warm up and cool down again it was also another chilled session though at the end of the session the team did remind us that they had not completed the second part of the combine which we now plan to do in the next session. During the session one individual hurt their shoulder which Tom took a look at and taped up and went through a couple of exercises with them too do at home. Another individual fell as they were trying to look back at the ball being thrown to them and fell over scraping their leg along the ground causing it to burn.
In this session I was trying to make sure that the players did not injure themselves especially this close to the end of the season where they started to do more silly things at training. The players were enjoying themselves though as it was not as programmed of a training session as it had been earlier in the year. Both players who came to us injured did not seem to be bothered by it and where eager to go back and carry on playing.
I enjoyed myself at training and though players got injured they did not seem to care that much and ran over quickly to have it taped or cleaned before re-joining in with training. This made me feel like I had accomplished something as the players knew we were there to help them, and they can come over to us to get “fixed” before continuing.
My actions matched my wider beliefs of looking out for the team and the players on the team. I did not act in an uncharacteristic way but instead acted with the team and their players best intentions in my actions.
Tom was at training, and we had planned the warmup and cool down prior to going to the session. We also discussed what to do and what we found when assessing the players shoulder. We also double checked what to do with the player with Astro burn though it was something we had done many times before we still verbally listed off what we were doing for the other to check. If Tom was not there, I think I am now in the mind set where I will just say what I am doing out loud.
This event was similar to the last couple of flag training sessions with us completing a warmup and cool down and the players having a chilled session of playing games. I feel happy that the team are trusting Tom and myself to treat them and to come up to us when they feel a niggle.
