Strengths (Helpful)

What am I good at?

Weaknesses (Harmful)

What do I need to work on?

-Kind and considerate (to take into consideration client’s needs)

-Highly aware of other people’s feelings (can say things to clients in the correct way as to not offend them)

-Strong ability to bring out the best in other people (to be able to motivate clients to follow a rehabilitation plan and to stay positive)

-Learn best by doing (which means that the practical aspects of rehabilitation will be practiced well)

-Dependable (reliable to make appointments and fulfil responsibilities)

-Can deal with high degrees of criticism (Use criticism productively)

-Managing your emotions reasonably well in most situations (which means that clients will respond well with me)

-Teamworking (can work with S&C coaches etc… to get the best rehabilitation for clients)

-Working under pressure (can deal with injuries pitch side effectively)

-Adaptability (can conform to new ideologies of rehabilitation)

-Delegating (can get all a team involved)

-Motivating others (can keep clients positive)

-Planning (can develop effective rehabilitation plans)

-Appraising (can tell clients when they are doing well)

-Strategy planning (can time scale programmes well)

-Receiving feedback (can always alter programmes to be more effective)

-Tend to avoid conceptual analysis, theory or the abstract (which means that I need to be very focused on theory to get the most out of theory)

-Not good at saying ‘no’ (can mean that I need to be firmer with clients and return times)

-Bear grudges (work on becoming more forgiving)

-Can become mentally exhausted and inflexible (need to give myself time to relax and recuperate)

-Decision-making (need to be able to make decisions under pressure)

-Numerical reasoning (this needs to be developed so in your programmes you can have the correct sets and rep ranges to get maximal effects)

-Customer service (everything needs to be applied to each individual customer)

-Networking (to get a good group of professionals such as an S&C coach to refer too)

-Using technology (to stay up to date with the best techniques and methods)

-Budgeting (as being potentially self-employed money may come in at different times so budgeting is needed to pay for tape and living)

Opportunities (potentially helpful)

What could help me along?

Threats (potentially harmful)

What might stop me?

-Learn to say “no” to unproductive things (to maximise productivity)

-Speak up for your achievements, become more assertive (to attract new clients)

-Sometimes go with the flow (so that everything is not robotic)

-Express anger in a way which leaves self-esteem intact on both sides (to keep as many clients as possible)

-When you want to express strong feelings, rather than risk damaging emotional outbursts, try using phrases that start with ‘I’ rather than ‘you’ such as “I feel very…” instead of “you are being very…”.

-First instinct may be to get angry (which can lead to a bad reputation so taking the time to evaluate the situation will help to reduce this)

-One thing that is a threat is one weakness being the use of technology, this is as for a therapist to be effective they need to stay up to date with all the latest developments and this could be to do with technology
