Fitness Report

IN the run up to Argyle’s away trip to Swindon Town in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday, manager Ryan Lowe provided an update on our current injuries.

Ahead of Thursday’s training session, Lowe gave an insight into who may or may not be available for the weekend, and while the wait goes on for Dom Telford, there is better news for other Pilgrim options in the forward department.

“Jose [Baxter] is training today,” said the gaffer. “He’s available. Byron [Moore] is training today, not with the first-team as such – in and out. Dom is probably a week to ten days away. We won’t rush Dom because we’ve got Byron back next.”

Ryan also reported the news that George Cooper is back in training after he sustained a broken nose and fractured cheekbone in the recent 1-0 win over Mansfield Town.

“George Cooper is back training, with a funny mask on, but there’s no need to rush him either,” said Ryan. “George is 100 percent available for Saturday, provided he doesn’t get a bang on it. I would have thought he’d be alright; he’s chomping at the bit.

“There was talk that he needed to get an operation but he didn’t want it. I certainly didn’t want it. The mask is the way forward.”

The boss also went on to mention Conor Grant and his niggling thigh injury after he needed to be substituted on Tuesday evening in the 3-0 win over Swindon Town in the Leasing.com Trophy.

“He [Conor Grant] has got a scan,” said Ryan. “We’ll have that injury addressed, but he’s feeling better. We’re just hoping with Conor that it’s a bit of fatigue.

“He hasn’t played many games of late but he’s played two back-to-back. We’re hoping it’s a little bit mentally fatigued rather than any kind of muscle tear. There might be a little bit of soreness but hopefully it’s not a tear.”

After fielding a changed side on Tuesday, Lowe was quick to emphasise how recovery for some of his side was important, but how it will ensure they are all raring to go on Saturday for a trip to the same opponents.

“Danny [Mayor] and Callum [Mcfadzean] have both been working in-house, they’ve been up the gym and done some recovery stuff,” he said.

“They’ve both probably played the most minutes, I thought it was only right to give them a bit of a breather. A bit of a rest period. They’ll be at it in training, ready for the weekend.”
