Task 1 – LIBRARY SKILLS

  • Locate 6 books concerned with disability or SEN in the library, record their dewey code, and make a record of how you found them.

Book 1 – Teaching physical education to children with special educational needs and disabilities.                                                                                                                            DeweyCode:371.904486/VIC                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                This book can be found in the library by looking on the computer catalogue, typing in SEND and all books associated with the topic or course will appear, giving you the shelf number, find number 3-4 in the library, within this section you will find the corresponding shelf that will match this dewey code.

Book 2 – SEND handbook.  Dewey Code:  371.9/NAS                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  This book can be found in the library by looking on the computer catalogue, typing in SEND and all books associated with the topic or course will appear, giving you the shelf number, find number 3-4, within this section you will find the corresponding shelf that will match this dewey code.

Book 3 – The SEND code of practice 0-25 years : policy, provision and practice. Dewey  Code: 371.9 TUT                                                                                                                                          I found this book after looking in the library catalogue and scrolling through the available books, as many were already out or on hold. When I found one available in the library I took a note of its Dewey code and followed the signs to direct me to the shelf number.

Book 4 – Everybody included : the SEND code of practice explained. Dewey Code: 371.9/EVE                                                                                                                                                              I found this book in the same section on the computer catalogue as a suggested book to study for SEND, I wrote down its Dewey code, then went to find the book shelf by following the numbered isles.

Book 5- Disability. Dewey Code: 362.4/BAR                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       I found this book in the computer catalogue in the library when I typed in Disability. It gave me a whole selection of books to choose from, I chose this one and noted its Dewy code, then went to find it using the numbered isles.

Book 6- Surviving and succeeding in SEN.  Dewey code: 371.9/BAR                                                                                                                                                                                                             I found this book in the computer catalogue after typing in SEN, it gave me lots of books to choose from and I chose this one, clicked on it to find the shelf number and its Dewey Code.

Locate 5 journal articles concerning disability or SEN using the library website. Record them and make a note of how you located these sources of information.

Article 1 – Disability & Society.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                I found this article by logging onto the Marjon library website, clicking on A-Z online journals, typing in the search bar – Disabilities, which brings up 1-135 articles to choose from.

Article 2 – Disability and rehabilitation                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            This journal article I found in the Marjon library website after clicking on A-Z online journals, typing in the search bar my specific subject – Disability, which brings up lots of articles to choose from. If you hover over the (I)icon it will give you instructions. Click on the right hand bar the year you’d like to view which will give you lots of journals to explore.

If you hover over the (I)icon it will give you instructions. Click on the journal you’d like to view which will give you lots of journals to explore, I chose to read ‘wicked problems in special & inclusive education’, Click full text which will bring up the article for you to read.

Article 5 – Special Educational Needs: The key concepts                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   I found this journal after searching the A-Z online journals, which brought up lots of articles to choose from after typing in Special educational needs, from here I had lots of articles to choose from so I chose the key concepts and clicked full text to read the article.
