The patient came in the clinic for a follow up appointment after identifying that she had medial tibial stress syndrome for building up her running too quickly when trying to build up to a 5 k. The patient brough in her new footwear which was a massive improvement from her last pair and had sufficient support around the ankle and a shock absorbent sole. The client was shown a dynamic warm up that focussed on preparing her for her run and involved exercises like lunges, high knees etc…  She has been told to look up RAMP warmups and this warm up is supported by research to help improve an athletes performance and reduce the likeness of injury. The patient ran on the treadmill for 5 min to ensure normal gait and then was recorded with a running gait app. Afterward the patient was shown a static cool down which involved static stretching which holds up to 60 seconds for the major muscle groups.

The video’s of the patient running were looked up and the athlete had a heel strike, which is not identified as a problem, however by landing mid foot this could help reduce the amount of impact and stress on the tibia and surrounding structures, the patient was told about this and told to try and land less on the heel. The patient wanted to lose weight and therefore was shown a quick fat burner HIT workout on the spinning bike which involved maximum work for 20 secs followed active rest for 10 seconds over a duration of 3 mins. This is proven to help burn fat and the patient appeared to enjoy the work out.

She has been booked in to be shown how to strengthen different muscle parts and to put a plan together for her 5 k.
