With week 7 just around the corner and patterns emerging of which teams will be in contention for their division and their conference, is it time to ask the question of who will win the NFC East?
The NFC East is called home by the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins and the New York Giants (but the Giants are 1-5 and don’t look like achieving anything this season). Both the Eagles and the Cowboys have a 3-3 record whilst the Redskins boast the best in the division all be it 3-2.
Unlike the NFC West which houses the Rams who are 6-0 and look set to win that division with what looks like Seattle coming second unlike the East is a closer competition. A tight division isn’t exclusive to the East it is also very much alive in the AFC South with 3 of the 4 teams standing their ground with a3-3 record. The reason this is different to the NFC East is that with the Eagles coming off their Super bowl win and a late but futile resurgence by the Cowboys last year the East could have shaped up to be a dual between the Eagles and the Cowboys but this year it is looking like who is the best of a bad bunch.
During this weekends fixtures, the Cowboys and the Redskins will take to the field with the winner rising to 1st in the NFC East, whilst the Eagles take on the 3-2 Carolina Panthers. Despite all the East teams only having 3 wins, the Cowboy have the 2nd best rushing stats in the league only behind the Los Angeles Rams who have the leagues leading rusher Todd Gurley who has 623 of the Rams 926 rushing yards. The Eagles have the 7th best first down record again behind the L.A Rams who lead, whilst all of the Redskins Offensive Rankings are 21st at the highest.
Once the week 7 matches are played and the dust settles and the scoreboards are reset for next week, we will be able to see if any team in the East has improved and if becoming a viable contender who can assert their dominance against the other NFC East teams and possibly win the NFC conference in a game that looks almost destined to be played against the Rams.
