Danny Cipriani’s return to form for Gloucester has been over shadowed by not being selected by Eddie Jones for the England squad.
Cipriani’s chances of playing for England again have been limited drastically after not being selected for the upcoming Autumn Internationals. Although he has been playing some of his best rugby, Eddie Jones has decided not to select the September Premiership Player of the Month. Whilst it has been speculated that his behaviour off the pitch has played a part in this decision, this has been responded to as ‘false’ by the England Coach.
Due to the Gloucester fly half being 30 years of age it doesn’t give him much hope of playing for England again. Having been in amazing form, it must ring alarm bells as to what it will take in order to win over the boss. To make matters worse for Gloucester’s star man, Jones says that he is his 3rdor 4thchoice of fly half which casts even more doubt over his England future and the chances he may get.
Following this, a few days after the news of being omitted from the squad, he then receives a 3-week suspension after being cited for a high tackle during their Champions Cup game against Munster. This certainly rubbed salt in the wound. However, having a clean on the pitch disciplinary record has helped Cipriani ashis 3-week suspension got reduced from 6 weeks to 3.
Overall, it seems as if there is not much that Danny Cipriani can do to win over the England Coach and get a position in the England squad. This leads to there being a minimum chance of him making it to the 2019 World Cup in Japan. Is it the case of Jones just disliking Cipriani?
