A ‘Breaking Bad’ movie, a spin-off from the main series, has been announced by The Hollywood Reporter this week. They have revealed that the series creator Vince Gilligan is developing a movie that will be set within the same universe as the well loved Netflix series.
New Mexico newspaper The Albuquerque Journal has reported that filming will begin this month and is said to be taking place within similar places as the initial series. This film is said to have already established its plot and title, with reports claiming the project will be called ‘Greenbrier’ and they explain the flick will “follow the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom”.
The hit TV show, which ran for five years, began in 2008 and ran until the finale in 2013. The series became something of an internet sensation, with millions of followers watching each episode on Netflix. Five years on, it’s clear that the producers of the series wish to make the hit series something of a blockbuster hit and feel the story can continue on this format.
In the recent spin-off series ‘Better Call Saul’ neither Cranston nor Paul appeared and therefore it is unknown whether or not they will star in this new film. It has also yet to be announced whether or not this new movie will be set before the initial series or afterwards.
Cranston told The Dan Patrick Show in an interview on the show how: “I have not gotten the script” but how “if Vince Gilligan asked me to do it, sure, absolutely. He also remarked how the series creator is ‘a genius’.
