Their is always more football at Christmas and their is even more this year as Liverpool enter the Club World Cup.
Liverpool enter this tournament at the Semi-final stages but what is it?
On the 11th The FIFA Club World Cup starts, it is a knockout competition, it has had 15 previous iterations. The final will be played on December 21st in The Khalifa Stadium in Doha. The clubs that are in the World Cup are the teams that win the six continental confederations along with host nations (Qatar) league champions.
The tournament has different format to most, the first round is between two teams, the host nation and the winners of the Oceania Football Confederation.
The second round has three teams enter, along with the winners of the first round. The three entrants are the winners of the Asian Confederation, Confederation of African Football and Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean.
The winners of the second round each play either Liverpool, winners of the Champions League (Europe) and Flamengo, winners of the South American conference.
For Liverpool, the tournament conflicts with their EFL cup match at Villa Park. Manager, Jürgen Klopp has chosen to field two separate teams, bringing the senior squad to Qatar and relying on youth against Aston Villa.
