Run Plymouth: highlighting athletes across the city

It’s time to dust off those trainers as it is the return of Plymouth’s yearly running festival, taking place between Plymouth Hoe and Elburton. Every year, thousands of people take part in these various races. Whether that’s to improve their fitness, beat personal goals or to raise money for charity, there’s no better reason to sign up for a race now that COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. The events were cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, but 2021 allowed the races to restart.

 


On Sunday the 19th June 2022, there will be four different races taking place;

 

Plymouth Half marathon:

  • Start time: 8:15am-8:35am
  • Start and finish location: Plymouth Hoe

Plymouth 10K

  • Start time: 8:15am-8:35am
  • Start and finish location: Plymouth Hoe

Plymouth 5K

  • Start time: 8:15am-8:35am
  • Start and finish location: Plymouth Hoe

All three of these races set off at the same time and location but have differing routes. However, the final race is the Delt Virtual Schools Challenge where children from different schools across Plymouth have 13 weeks to run 13 miles, running the final mile on Sunday the 19th June 2022. 

 

There is such a large variety of athletes signing up to run these races, below is a number of athletes who were randomly selected to share their reasons for signing up.

Why not test your limits and sign up to take part in one of the races? Click on the link to sign up. There is an entry fee, depending on which race you sign up for. However, if you finish the race in a certain time, you’ll have your entry fee refunded. But don’t forget to sign up before Monday the 9th May when entries close. 

 

Plymouth holds such a tight-knit, caring community where many of the local runners are running for charities based around Devon, such as Animals in Distress, Mind and Plymouth Sports Charity. Alongside many other national charities. There are also sports therapy students at Marjon University in Plymouth that are offering free massages to runners after their races to help ease those post run pains and many volunteers have signed up in order to help with the setup of the event, handing out water to runners and route Marshals who guide athletes on their route.
