Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is fuming with the referees and VAR’s decision that led to them conceding against Newcastle in the heated premier League clash on Saturday evening. United’s Anthony Gordon scored the controversial opener in the sixty-fourth minute of the game which caused huge uproar on whether it should have stood, after the ball was seemingly over the line and the Gunners defender Gabriel was pushed just before the winger latched on to the loose ball in the box.
Arteta’s reds who have now lost their first league of the season following the loss on Tyneside have been fuming since the game and the specific call that led to the loss and the former midfielder has come out and said ‘’it’s embarrassing’’ and he followed on to say ‘’I feel sick’’. VAR put the ball over the line call to ‘’non conclusive’’ evidence to disallow the goal. He followed on to say about how much effort they put in to compete at this level and should not be subject to that level of officiating.
There was a lengthy VAR check to see if the ball was out of play, a foul and an offside in the lead up to the goal which none was passed or were overturned by the Video Assistant Referee which leaves the former midfielder with a sour taste leaving the North East. The defeat was a missed opportunity for the former champions to reach the league summit. The win for the Magpies puts them in sixth position.
