Sarina Wiegman believes that Beth Mead has shown enough to earn her place back into the England lioness’s squad.
Wiegman has named her England squad for the upcoming nations league games against Netherlands and Scotland and Mead will be joining the Lionesses on the pitch after missing out on the world cup in the summer.
Mead last played for the lionesses on the 11th of November 2022 in a 4-0 win against Japan, but may now feature in England’s next two fixtures against Scotland and the Netherlands. These next two fixtures are crucial for the Lionesses as winning these games will give the girls a realistic chance of finishing first in their Nations League group.
Wiegam said: “She is a character that brings positive energy off the pitch and on the pitch and it’s good to have her back. Her experience, the way she plays, she’s different than other players on the wing, she brings different things so that’s good we have different opportunities again. Off pitch gives us some extra energy.”
Sarina mentioned that mead is in a “good place” and is “still building” from her ACL injury that occurred last November while playing for Arsenal. Sarina is feeling confident in Mead and mentioned it was a “very nice phone call, and was very happy” while giving her the exciting news Wiegman told a press conference. “We’ve had phone calls all the time, since September and October too, because she was training and getting some minutes.
