It looks almost certain Arsenal will sign Real Madrid’s Martin Ødegaard on loan this January transfer window. They’ve beaten off competition from the likes of Real Sociedad, where Martin had a breakthrough season, making 31 appearances on loan at the Spanish club.
The Norwegian international is known for his attack-minded football, he’s been likened to ex-Man City star David Silva. The Gunners are crying out for a midfielder who can play in that attacking, forward-thinking role similar to Ozil, who recently departed the club. Emile Smith Rowe has begun to emerge as a key player for Arsenal lately, making some fans concerned that the signing of Ødegaard may hinder his growth. However, Mikel Arteta has made it clear that both players will receive game time and that “depth is important”.
Martin has only started 3 matches in La Liga this season and has played a total of 233 minutes of league football. He’s made it clear he wants out of Bernabeu to progress his career.
With the player wanting to leave Madrid and both clubs happy for the deal to go ahead, it looks like a matter of when, rather than if this transfer will happen.
