Top 5 Christmas hacks for students

So if you’re like us here at The Doughnut, you’re always on the lookout for clever little tips and tricks that help save money, and make life less stressful.  Every little counts, right? Right. We all know that Christmas can be a heavy burden on our bank accounts, but it doesn’t have to be this way!

We’ve put together a list of student hacks that are sure to save you some pennies this year, and make your life a little less hectic.

1) Secret Santa

This is one of the best ways to save yourself, your family, and your friends some serious cash this Christmas. Suggest secret Santa with your family and/or friends, and that way everyone buys for one person, and no one gets left out either! Just write everyone’s name down and pick at random from a hat, and hey presto you’ve massively cut down the dreaded crimbo budget already!

2) Buy late Christmas presents

Everyone’s always in such a rush to buy their presents this time of year, but I bet if you think about who you’ve got to buy for you’ll have someone that you won’t be seeing until after Christmas? If that’s the case, wait!

Boxing Day offers some legit deals, and everything is pretty much cheaper after the 25th, so why not wait, and save more this year.

4) Do It Yourself… duh!

If you haven’t noticed already, people love homemade presents. You can spend £50 on someone and they’ll no doubt appreciate it, but buy a photo frame foe a quid and put a nice photo in it? Sorted. If it’s ‘the thought that counts’ then a DIY gift is sure to be more thoughtful than most things, right?

We think so! Why not try it this year, and see if you can save some more, and get more brownie points while you’re at it.

4) Save money on tags

You could save some real money on tags this year, by cutting up your cards from the year before! By simply cutting off the front of your cards, you’ll have a full set of tags for your presents and they’re bigger which means you can write a more personalised message, or even get creative and draw a picture!

5) Gather your presents throughout the year

Save money and start thinking about presents early! Black Friday is a good time of year to get some great deals, so keep your eyes peeled for discounts. As well as November, there are plenty of money saving deals all year, and you’ll slim the spending for sure if you keep your wits about you.

That’s all from us…
