This winter, 20 life-size polar bear cubs have arrived in Plymouth, to raise awareness about the plastic pollution issue in the Arctic.
The Polar Bear explorer trail is a project between Plymouth Waterfront Partnership and the National Marine Aquarium.
People can take part by finding all of the polar bears and the facts that are with them. If they find them all, they’ll be entered into a prize draw. They’ll also be encouraged to make a pledge to cut down on their single-use plastic consumption.
According to the WWF, the polar bear population is predicted to decline by 30% by 2050.
Plymouth is already leading the way with its efforts to protect the ocean. The council launched a Plan for Plastics scheme, in which organisations across the city aim to reduce single-use plastics and Plymouth has become the first UK city to be accredited with Plastic Free Communities status by the charity, Surfers Against Sewage.
The Polar Bear explorer trail is on from now until 3rd March 2018. You can find out more about the trail at www.visitplymouth.co.uk.
