Over the weekend Leicester broke the record for the biggest away win, scoring 9 past Southampton and putting themselves 3rd in the league.
Speaking to James Benton, he “thought Southampton were shocking, really, really shocking”.
Southampton were “shocking”, conceding nine goals at home is something no team wants to do. Southampton were hindered by having Ryan Bertrand sent off, following a VAR check which occurred after Leicester’s first goal. Leicester followed this dismissal by scoring a quick double, by halftime they were 5-0 up, at the final whistle they had matched Manchester United’s 9-0 win against Ipswich.
Speaking about the dismissal James had this to say, “Maybe, I think they (Souhampton) would have done better with 11 men obviously, but you could tell by the way Leicester were playing even before the red card that they were going to absolutely destroy Southampton”.
With this win Leicester are now third in the table, matching points with Chelsea and only two behind Manchester City, who played Aston Villa on the weekend.
City won 3-0 but played poorly in the first half with Pep Guardiola saying, “if we play like we did in the first half, we will be relegated or in the relegation positions”. In the second half, Sterling opened the scoring in the 46th minute, De Bruyne and David Silva combined for the second and Gündoğan fired in their third on the volley.
James, a supporter of Villa , “I would have been really very happy to see a draw, at least a draw but obviously it’s a tough ask against one of the best teams in the league. I think Villa hung in well, in the first half, I think considering the quality Man City had it was only a matter of time before they got a few goals past us.”
Exeter played, and beat, Plymouth Argyle on the weekend. Beating the Pilgrims 4-0 in the Devon Derby puts the Grecians second in the League Two table.
Exeter won a penalty near the end of the first half, which Nicky Law converted. In the second half Exeter ran away with it scoring a further 3 goals. On the scoresheet were Tom Parkes and Randell Williams, before Nicky Law added his second.
When asked about whether Exeter can get promotion this season James had this answer “Fingers crossed, we lost two games previous to that to Scunthorpe United and Cambridge, but I think having that derby win should pick up our spirits should and hopefully go on to get automatic promotion.”
