About Marjons

Formerly known as the University College Plymouth St Mark & St John, the institution was awarded a full university status in 2012.

Aside from the development of the institutional status, Marjons is currently the product of more than 170 years of educational growth. Originally founded in the 1840’s as a response to a growing demand for trained teachers, the two colleges of St Mark & St John were originally London based before moving to Plymouth in 1973, situated in the North of the city.

In 2013 a major investment programme in campus facilities was completed. Students who attend Marjons can now utilise some of the best sports facilities of any UK university, including exercise science laboratories, a regularly modernised fitness suite, a swimming pool, climbing wall, sports halls, gyms as well outdoor pitches on a 3G astroturf. There are also teaching facilities for business innovation, theatre, JaM centre (Journalism and Media) and a live music production studio. Facilities on the campus are updated regularly as well, most recently with a brand new state-of-the-art student hub.

The Peninsula Allied Health Centre (PAHC) which enables 814 University of Plymouth students to study a range of allied health professions that complement the university’s expertise in sports therapy, speech and language therapy and physical activity and health is also located on campus.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University is currently Rob Warner, who joined in March 2017.
