The next session was with a male client aged 23 and participates in rugby and American football 3-4 times a week, they also go to the gym regularly. The client had complaints of pain within the quadricep muscles.

After applying effleurage to the quads, there was a tightness within the Vastus medialis muscle of the quadriceps. Petrissage was applied to the muscle to allow for deeper techniques and to create heat within the muscle, this will also help to compress and relax the muscle tissues. As tightness of the muscle was located distally, around the knee joint, knee extension and flexion were tested to ensure that full ROM was achievable. The client was able to fully extend and flex the knee (heel to glute). This ensures that the is no issue with the knee joint or the quadriceps or hamstring muscles.

Tapotement techniques were applied to help relax the muscle and stimulate blood circulation. The techniques used included hacking and beating.

After the session, the client claimed that there was a decrease in pain and tightness within the quadricep muscle.

A knee assessment can be completed before treatment is given to help determine whether there are any issues with the joint, muscle or ligaments which may also suggest the pain within the clients quadricep.
