Reflections 15.11.18

Date: 15.11.18

Location: Plymouth Marjon University

Total amount of hours: 16

In this session, a male client aged 18 was treated. The client currently competes in water polo around 4 hours a week and has previously participated in football. The client had complaints of pain within the quadricep muscle after completing a run.

After first checking for any contraindications, the client was then observed for any pain or abnormalities within the effected area. The client mentioned of pain within the right rectus femoris muscle with slight pain on palpation. Treatment began with effleurage to the left quadricep to help warm up the area and prepare for more deep tissue techniques.

It was clear that the rectus femoris was tight as the client complained of pain (6/10 NRS) during the beginning of effleurage. With less pressure applied, the tightness within the muscle began to subside, and the client no longer felt too much pain (4/10 NRS). Petrissage was then applied with kneading techniques, this helped to loosen the muscle fibres further. Tapotement techniques such as hacking and beating were then applied and pain was reduced after application of the techniques.

In the next session, stretching techniques will be applied to help increase the clients ROM.

Testing and measuring the clients ROM before and after treatment can help to determine whether the treatment had been effective.
