This session was in a gym based clinic with Scott Silsbury in Newton abbot. This included a variety of clients of different ages and back grounds.

Some of the clients seen during this session were all for similar injuries with very similar treatments. Below are some examples of these and some of the sessions which was most interesting during the day.

The first client seen was for low back pain where the laser was used to help relax the muscle using light waves. Massage was then applied to help promote blood flow and lymphatic drainage. After this the client had felt a decrease in pain of the lower back and glute muscles.

The next client seen was for tightness in the upper fibres of the trapezius muscles causing pain and a decrease in ROM. The laser was used to help relax the muscles before massage and mobilisations of the shoulder were also completed. After the treatment, the client found that there was some decrease in pain but also a big increase in the ROM of the shoulder.

This next client was a builder who carries a lot of weight, however has had to recently take time off work due to a pain in the shoulder. After a subjective and objective assessment this was believed to be a rotator cuff impingement with the nerve being compressed resulting in pins and needles down the right arm. treatment provided was with the use of the laser from the occiput across the muscle of the trapezius, the supraspinatus and to the acromion joint. Massage and shoulder mobilisations were then applied. The client was then taken to the onsite gym where they were prescribed with shoulder exercises using a resistance band in external rotation, abduction and an eccentric bicep curl.

The final client seen was an MMA fighter who is currently training for his next fight in 2 months time. They are currently experiencing some tightness in the hamstrings and some pain in the shoulder past 90 degrees abduction. Upon assessment there was also tightness in the quad muscles after a heavy training session that same week. Treatment provided was quad and hamstring massage with some massage to the calf muscles also. Treatment for the shoulder included laser therapy at the rotator cuff and massage to the traps and shoulder. METs were also provided to help increase shoulder ROM and the pec was also treated using massage and METs. Finally, METs were also applied at the hamstrings to help increase ROM. Post treatment the client found a decrease in pain and an increase in shoulder abduction.
