Within this session a 26-year-old male was treated. The client’s previous treatments were looked at and how they have been affecting the movement and range of motion at the clients shoulder.

To do this, the client was tested with how they were able to rotate the shoulder using adduction and abduction, flexion and extension before any of the movements caused him any discomfort. It was noticed how the clients range of movement had improved greatly from the first session, however their full range was still not achieved. There was also still some complaint of pain within the shoulder during abduction.

For the remainder of the session the anterior deltoid was treated using a light effleurage before more deep tissue massage within the deltoid and then the upper trapezius and neck. There were not any recognisable knots or severe tightness within the deltoid muscle. However, there was slight tightness in the upper trapezius although this is more likely to be stress related rather than due to the same injury as the client’s shoulder.

Within the next session, the client’s rotator cuff muscles will be assessed to determine whether this is affecting their shoulder injury and lack of full mobility.

A shoulder assessment can be carried out to help determine whether there are any further complications with the clients joint, muscles or ligaments which may be causing the clients pain at the shoulder as well as reducing the ROM.
