SCAT Testing

Scat5 testing (1 hour)

Every year before the BUCS teams get into training and games, the sports therapists ensure that they all complete a SCAT testing form so we have a baseline of normal measures when compared to concussed measures. It helps us keep track of the concussion and understand whether it is healing or not.

This year, before we started testing, Mike took us through how to correctly go through a SCAT5 form and what to focus on if a player needs to be retested on pitchside. Since I knew I was going to be the therapist for swimming and water polo I listened carefully. I learnt that memory function, walking ability, awareness, and the ability to process instructions. Mike also went and explained where the pitchside concussion information would be as well.
