About Me

My name is Alfie Hawking, and I am currently studying my first year of Bsc Sports Therapy. Sport, and primarily football, has always been a huge part of my life, playing various different sports since the age of 8. While most young kids have always dreamed to be a professional football or rugby player, I soon learned this was not a realistic goal, however, still wanted to be involved in sports into my adult career. Combining this with the love I found for GCSE and A-Level PE, I decided to pursue a career in sports therapy. More so than other areas of physical education, the theory behind the cause, prevention and treatment of injuries has fascinated me since the first time we learnt about it. I also love the hands on approach and style of learning this area provides you with, as this is how I learn best.

I am still an avid football player, currently playing for my university team. This has provided me with more opportunities to expand my scope of knowledge by both watching more senior therapists and how they deal with injuries, and in some cases treating an injury myself. Also, I love the social aspect that comes with football, and this is also a big part of a sports therapists job. Leading on from this, I am always socialising with my friends and family ensuring I maintain a good work and social life balance.
