Since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival at Chelsea Football Club a couple of weeks ago, the philosophy of the club has changed quite dramatically since the departure of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard who despite only being at the club for 18 months left the club in 9th place after a traumatic Christmas period for the club where the team lost 3-1 to a 15th place Arsenal at the time.
In Chelsea’s most recent win over Tottenham earlier on in the week Tuchel used Kovacic and Jorginho as his two starting central midfielders. The duo performed very well supporting Mason Mount and Callum Hudson Odoi with both of them playing just in front in an attacking role.
Kante was subbed On for Kovacic in the 73rd minute with the French man putting in an unusual uncharacteristic performance picking up a yellow card just 9 minutes after he was substituted on.
Chelsea fans will be anticipating a return in positive form for the £32 million midfielder who has been played out of position regularly under previous managers Frank Lampard and Maurizio Sarri. He was being used as a box to box midfielder with Jorginho being deployed in the holding midfielder role as a deep lying playmaker.
Hopefully Kante will be able to show his best side as Chelsea look to expand their trophy cabinet after winning their last trophy in 2019 which was the Europa League. There have been no transfer rumours surrounding the player but that might be a different story come summer time…
