THE GULLS SNATCH LAST MINUTE WINNER IN THE WEST COUNTRY DERBY

Torquay United win in dramatic style over Yeovil at Huish Park to secure the Christmas and New Year double over their west country rivals.

United substitute Dan Holman’s excellent 89th minute strike was enough to complete the turnaround, after Connor Lemonheigh-Evans scored directly from a corner in the 76th minute to lift the gulls faithful.

After brushing the glovers aside on boxing day in an exciting affair by three goals to nil, this 2-1 win at Huish Park completes six points out of a possible nine over the christmas period. This win was Torquay’s third win in four national league games, as their overall form continues to improve. The Gulls were backed by 1000 plus yellows supporters to help push them over the line for the first game of 2022 in Somerset.

In a game which both sides needed the win, the home side hit the front in the 66th minute with a stunner of a strike by young defender Jordan Barnett. Torquay United manager Gary Johnson looked for reinforcements from his bench with on loan QPR forward Sinclair Armstrong who proved to change the game. His work rate alongside good movement helped the Gulls create the chances they needed to overcome Yeovil’s 1-0 lead.

Overall the result leaves The Gulls in a much better position to start a push for the playoffs into 2022. They sit 12th in the National League with a tricky game up next against inform Dagenham and Redbridge on the 8th January.
