England end qualifiers unbeaten after North Macedonia stalemate

Southgate hailed his team’s “good” performance, while pointing out that his side “totally controlled the game” as England were held to 1-1 draw against North Macedonia, in what was the final game of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

The England gaffer lauded the ‘excellent mentality’ on display after England were forced to come from 1-0 down following a controversial penalty decision.

Reflecting on the unbeaten qualifying campaign in which England finished with eight wins and two draws, Southgate stated: “I have to be pleased with the progress of the team.”

He was however quick to note that he believes that there is more to come from his side: “I think we have done a lot of things well but there is always room for improvement”.

England next face friendlies in March against Brazil and Belgium, two games that are viewed as “exciting” by the England boss, as preparation for the Euro’s ramps up.
