10/10/18  Marjon Clinic  No. of hours 2

Gastrocnemius massage given to 58 year old female who runs 4 times a week.

Towelling techniques used to cover up the clients clothing and to protect it from the lotions being used. Effleurage techniques used on the calf to warm up the muscles, this is to cause erythema, this is redness of the skin. Petrissage techniques were used to get into the muscles deeper this is it help with muscle tightness and to help stretch the muscle tissues. It was also used to allow blood flow to the area to help speed the recovery time. After the massage the client was told to drink plenty of fluids and to make sure that they don’t overuse the muscles as this could delay recovery time.

Remember to set the bed at the correct level to massage easily, bed had to be adjusted during the massage due to the bed being to low. Moving the leg so the knee is flexed could have also been done, this would be to massage soleus as the gastrocnemius is relaxed in this position.
