Clinical reflections 5

1/11/18  Marjon Clinic  No. of hours 7

Client is an 18 year old female who swims regularly and goes to the gym twice a week.

Client has lower back pain and had said they were experiencing tightness in that area. A postural assessment was done before the massage, this showed that the clients right shoulder was higher than the left, they also had slight kyphosis. This could be due to poor posture while sitting at desks. Effleurage was given at the beginning of the massage to warm the muscle fibres and to loosen them. When erythema happened petrissage was used, this was to get into the deeper tissue of the erector spinea muscle. Tapotements were used to help stimulate nerve endings and local circulation. A few techniques used were hacking, beating, and cupping.

Make sure that the right amount of lotion is used, this could be done by applying an amount on the back of the hand. If more lotion is needed then use what is put on the back of the hand rather than go to the station to get more lotion during the massage.
