UFC fans have jumped to social media after the main event of UFC 298, after witnessing Alexander Volkanovski get brutally knocked out against Ilia Topuria in the second round.
Twitter users have been saying the Australian came back way too fast from another knockout against Islam Makhachev back in October of 2023.
On Twitter, Jared Gordon said he is “not taking anything away from Ilia, but Volk came back way too fast”.
The 35-year-old was the champion of his weight class following a win in 2019, and has had a great run since, so people expected a lot more between himself and the Spaniard at the weekend.
Damien Brown posted on Twitter saying “Volk was looking great but just got caught backing up to the fence. Amazing timing and power by Topuria but a hard watch as an Aussie”.
Volkanovski says “next time will be different”, after delivering some fireworks with Topuria and closing off a great fight night.
