This week’s session in the clinic began with a demonstration of the Isokinetic dynamometer which is a piece of equipment which passively applies different levels of resistance. This means that the amount of speed remains constant throughout the entire movement regardless of the resistance provided. This demonstration involved the flexion and extension of the knee, how to set up/adjust the equipment correctly and how the results can be interpreted. This was beneficial to learn as this is a piece of equipment which can be used for my own patients within their rehabilitation.

The first client of this session was a 17year old female with an Achilles tendon rupture. This was an online triage, so the aim of this session was to identify the client’s subjective information to help provide a further treatment plan. The client was in the later stages post op however had complaints of ankle pain and stiffness. No treatment was provided due to the client being booked for a face-to-face appointment the next day where further objective assessment will be completed including AROM, PROM, RROM, functional tests and palpations. This client would also potentially benefit from treatment on the anti-gravity treadmill to help assist with the loading of the ankle and gait pattern.

The second patient was another follow up appointment with a 42-year-old female who had originally came with Lx and Tx pain, however after approx. 5 weeks of treatment the client has reported a reduction in pain and is also providing positive feedback from each session.

This was a gym-based session with the focus being on the lower body. The client completed 10 minutes on a bike starting with a resistance of 1 which increased with each minute. The clients RPE was taken after each minute to assess fatigue, this can also be used as a clinical measure to see how they are improving each week.

The rest of the session consisted of squats using the smith machine, RDL’s using a 10kg barbell, hip thrusts, and abductions using the abduction machine. The client provided good feedback during these exercises and shown a lot of determination to complete each set. The rest of the session focused on the core which involved wood choppers and lunges with rotation using the cable machine. For the cool down at the end of the session, the client completed Childs pose, Cat camel, Hamstring stretch and a Quad stretch. This was to help relieve any DOMs, further injury and to return the heart rate back to a resting heart rate.

This session shown that my own confidence is beginning to grow while working with clients and providing exercise prescription within the gym environment.
