Clinical reflections 10

16/11/18  Marjon clinic  No. of hours 14

19 year old male rugby player who plays rugby once a week and has training two times a week.

A 19 year old rugby player came into the client with sore glutes this had happened when they did leg day at the gym with a friend two days prior to the appointment. Because of the sore glutes the client stated that it can be tricky to sit down and back up. To help with the recovery of the glutes a soft tissue massage was given, this includes effleurage, petrissage and tapotements. Neuromuscular techniques were applied to the knots that were found within the glutes, this was to help the client feel less tension. After this METs were applied the technique used was PIR this was to help stretch the muscles. When this was done the range of motion was tested, unfortunately it was not tested before using these techniques. Because of this there wasn’t any way to tell it they actually improved their range of motion.

Range of motion was not tested before the session started because of this it was not clear that the techniques that were used worked for their range of motion. In future the range needs to be tested in order to see if it has worked and how well it has worked.
