Clinical reflections 9

15/11/19  Marjon Clinic  No. of hours 12

20 year old male who plays lacrosse once a week with training twice a week for 2 hours.

In this two hour session the client was explaining that they were experiencing stiffness in the neck and the upper fibres of traps. Range of motion was tested before giving any treatment to see if after the session the range of movement had improved. Their range was limited in side flexion of the neck on the right side this could be due to them being right handed and is the side they use to throw the ball in lacrosse. A massage was given to the client by using effleurage, petrissage and neuromuscular techniques. Trigger point were used in this session this is to help improve the range of motion from the client. This is done by applying pressure onto the muscle while it is relaxed which was the right side of the upper trap. The client then moved their head to the opposite side, this done when the trigger point went from their neck down to the shoulder to get the whole upper trap. After this was done their range of motion was tested for the second time and it had improved on both sides.

Be more confident when applying new techniques on clients, this includes talking more to the client to explain what the techniques will be doing and how they will help.
